One customer wished to rework their ‘dull’ looking home yard contacted us for a supply and install service of Aqsa Artificial Grass in Cyberjaya, Selangor. As you can see, the owners yard was filled with “half-dead” grass—yellowish, wilted, and lifeless, as the Malay proverbs saying – “Mati Segan, Hidup Tak Mahu” which roughly translates to Unwilling to die; Yet, unwilling to live. After the selection process and quotation agreement were completed, the only thing left was to choose the installation date for the artificial grass at their home. Upon the arrival of the installation date, we began the process by uprooting and removing the natural grass, including the roots, to ensure that the grass won’t grow back between the artificial turf after installation. The second step was to treat the cleared soil with herbicide as a “double-tap” to thoroughly prevent the natural grass from regrowing. Afterward, the soil was leveled to create an even surface.
The third step is to fill the installation area with sand. The use of sand ensures that water can easily seep into the soil and prevents pooling on the surface of the grass during heavy rain. The sand is then compacted using a compactor machine to create a firmer and more comfortable surface. The final step is to lay out the artificial grass. The grass should be laid according to the size of the area to save on material, and the installation must follow the grain of the grass to prevent it from looking patchy. U-nails are used to secure and fix the grass along the edges. This makes the grass less likely to shift, lift, or tear when you’re active on it. Then, the seams between the grass pieces can be joined using seamless tape or silicone adhesive. Once all these steps are complete, the installed grass looks beautiful, neat, and impressive! Wow, you wouldn’t want your yard to look any less attractive, right?
Simple step-by-step guide!
- Identify areas you wish to install the grass
- Calculate the areas length and width
- Sketch a layout if possible
- Check for drainage and waterflow system
- Prepare an area or container to transfer dug up grass
- Buy the necessary item, equipment or tools that needed.
- Dig up all ‘original’ grass on the ground or areas
- Use hoe or shovel for faster and cleaner digging
- Remove dug up grass to prepared location or place
- Use wheelbarrow for faster and more convenient transfer
- Dug up the land slightly and re-level them
- Re-compact the land slightly with hoe or shovel
- Lay out weedmat to cover the installation area
- Bring fine sand and place them on top of weedmat evenly
- Use a leveling rake or anything suitable to level them
- Compress the sand using anything suitable, but compactor machine is preferable
- Use shovel or hoe as substitute to compact the sand
- Plan out your grass arrangement using sketched layout
- Laid the grass roll according to the plan
- Cut unnecessary and extra grass from the back using cutter knife
- Use a ‘kicker’ or ‘chucker’ to straighten and tensing grass roll (preventing any waviness on top op the grass)
- Use silicone glue or seamless tape to joint connecting grass roll
- Nail a turf nail or U-nail on corners, edges and grass joining to prevent any grass movement or flipping over
